Bill Time to Projects in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations

In this blog we will explore the step by step process of setting up bill time to projects in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.

  1. Setup
    1. Worker Setup
      1. Make sure user is connected to Worker
      2. Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations Worker Setup

        Click edit and select the applicable resource in the person field. If the value is populated, this can also be adjusted by clicking the maintain versions button.

      3. Worker must have a period
      4. Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations Worker Setup group

        On the Project tab, in the Set up group, click Project setup

        Click edit and select the applicable period code.

      5. Ensure Employee has proper financial dimensions

        On the employment tab, select the applicable financial dimensions.

  1. Project Setup
    1. Project stage in process
    2. Dynamics 365 for Operations Project Setup

      On the project tab, click the project stage button and select the In process Project stage.

    3. WBS Setup (changes need to be published to take effect)
    4. Dynamics 365 for Operations Work Breakdown Structure Setup

    5. Sales Price Setup
    6. Dynamics 365 for Operations Sales Price Setup

      On the project tab, in the Sales price group, click Hours

  1. Submit Timesheet
    1. Select project - activity - enter hours - insert comments as necessary
    2. Dynamics 365 for Operations Timesheet

      This should be the standard timesheet entry process.

    3. Submit to workflow
    4. Dynamics 365 for Operations Timesheet Submit to Workflow

      Click the Workflow button and then click Submit.

  1. Approve Timesheet (Projects+ Line level approval form)
    1. PM Approves Timesheet
    2. Dynamics 365 for Operations Timesheet Approve

      The Timesheet line level approval form is a Projects+ custom form.

    3. Timesheet now approved
    4. Dynamics 365 for Operations Timesheet Now Approved

    5. Post Timesheet
    6. Dynamics 365 for Operations Timesheet Now Approved

      To post time, go to the unposted timesheets form, select the timesheet, and click Post selected in the Accounting group.

  1. Create Invoice Proposal

    To create an invoice proposal, go to the manage tab, New group, and click Invoice proposal.

    The Invoice proposal review screen displays the associated transactions in the left window and a mock-up of how they will display in the Customer invoice in the right window.
