As the leading global provider of Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP solutions and services for project-based businesses, SAG has had the opportunity to work with many different types of project-driven organizations. One area where we’ve seen increasing demand and opportunity is with Contract Research Organizations, or CROs. CROs are project-driven organizations that provide outsourced services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies, helping them quickly and cost effectively bring their products to market. CROs provide services such as biopharmaceutical development, commercialization, pre-clinical and clinical research, clinical trials management, and other related services.
Microsoft has recently made available the CU7 release of their Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 ERP system. As a provider of Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP solutions to the professional services industry, we’ve been anxiously awaiting the CU7 release due to the addition of some significant enhancements to the Project Management & Accounting functionality in Dynamics AX. This blog will be the first of a series of blogs that will explore new functionality introduced in Dynamics AX 2012 R2 CU7.
One of the major enhancements in the CU7 release is the addition of a true Work Breakdown Structure or WBS within Dynamics AX. In prior versions of Dynamics AX, the WBS was simply a tool for building a list of tasks or activities within the project. These tasks were mostly used for project accounting-related functions such as defining the level of detail for project budgeting and time entry. There was very limited project execution functionality within the WBS.
In Dynamics AX 2012 R2 CU7, Dynamics AX now has a true Microsoft Project-style WBS as shown in the screenshot below.
SAGlobal is excited to announce that we will be implementing Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 for a new client that is a leading multi-national provider of supply chain management solutions and services. This organization provides supply chain consulting services, designs and installs material handling systems, and implements transportation management and warehouse management software solutions from leading TMS and WMS software vendors. They have offices in the US, EMEA, and Latin America that will all utilize a single global instance of Microsoft Dynamics AX.
We’re currently working with them to implement Dynamics AX to manage their Financials, Projects, Sales, Procurement, and Inventory Management functions within their business. The most critical functional area for their business within Microsoft Dynamics AX will be the Project Management & Accounting area. As a services-driven organization, their core operations all live within the context of a project. At the completion of this implementation, they’ll be able to manage their projects from start to finish in Dynamics AX.
In addition to the core Dynamics AX software, SAGlobal will also be implementing our ProjAX industry solution for Dynamics AX, as well as our AXtend Analyzer end-user reporting tool. We’re looking forward to helping this client transform their business using Microsoft Dynamics AX.
